- To respect the lab area and equipment; for example, users shall not eat or drink in the computer lab areas and clean up the area after themselves. Also, users should clean up their work are before leaving.
- To respect the privacy of other users; for example, users shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, tapes, or passwords belonging to other users, or misrepresent others. File sharing should be done using CAEDM group folders.
- No CAEDM user shall give their password to ANYONE (including family members). This is a strict policy for the protection of all users.
- To respect the legal protection provided by copyright and license to programs and data; for example, users shall not make copies of a licensed computer program to avoid paying additional license fees or to share with others users.
- CAEDM computing resources are provided for work within the College. CAEDM facilities may not be used for outside commercial work or other activities not related to College work and academic activities. For example, game playing on CAEDM equipment is not permitted. University policy allows incidental personal and eccleiastical use.
- To respect the integrity of computing systems, users shall not intentionally develop or use programs that harass other users or infiltrate a computer or computing system and/or damage or alter the software components of a computer or computing system. In other words, hacking activities are strictly prohibited, including network scanning and attempting to access any systems which you are not specifically authorized to use.
- To respect the financial structure of a computing system; for example, users shall not intentionally develop or use any unauthorized mechanisms to alter or avoid charges levied by the College for computing services or allow anyone else to use their account.
- To respect the rights of other users; for example, users shall not engage in private or public behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for other users based on their race, sex, color, religion, creed, age, marital status, handicap, or veteran status.
- Do not leave your workstation unattended. You are responsible for anything that happens while you are logged in. If you login and leave your machine, you are still responsible.
- Under no circumstance should users install / setup software.
This includes, for example:
- Installing to a zip
- Installing to a floppy
- Installing to the local drive
- Installing to a network drive
- Running programs from a CD
- Installing to ANY machine in the Crabtree, Clyde or Snell Buildings.
Under no circumstance should you use illegally installed software or software that is not under Start|CAEDM Programs. Obviously you may use Paint, Notepad, etc. but do not use, for example, Napster if it happens to be in the menu. We did not install it for you!!!
Some users will disregard, or not even read this message, but we are doing our best to inform our users. Each user agrees, when they get their account not to install ANY software.
You agreed, otherwise you would not have an account. Since our policy has been ignored by so many we are forced to do the following:
- If a user does any of the above their account will be disabled for 3 days.
- If a user violates the policy a second time their account will be disabled for 1 week.
- If a user violates the policy a third time their account will be permanently disabled.
Students will most likely be asked to leave the University when any of the following conditions have been substantiated: Any of the materials are pornograhic, erotic or indecent or when materials or associated expressions of conduct are offensive and, in the sole discretion and judgment of the University, are inconsistent with the principles of the Church and the BYU Honor code.
CAEDM reserves the right to monitor your account and associated computer activities. Abuse in any form will result in suspension of your account(s). If an abuse involves illegal activity, appropriate authorities will be notified.
