About CAEDM
CAEDM (Computer Aided Engineering Design and Manufacturing) is the organization that manages the college-wide computing resources of the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology. These resources include three general college use labs as well as applications and services accessible from departmental labs and from faculty and student-owned machines.
Who Can Use CAEDM Resources?
To use CAEDM resources you must abide by the CAEDM Lab Policy and be one of the following:
- Currently registered for a class within the college
- A declared major within the college
- An employee within the college
How do I Create and Manage My Account?
You can create your account using the CAEDM Account Adder and access account settings and resources via the CAEDM Account Manager. If you have trouble creating or managing your account, please contact your department CSR.

CAEDM has created a series of instructional YouTube videos that teach users about CAEDM services and how to use them. See our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/byucaedm.
What Resources are Available?
Labs
CAEDM supports three general college use computer labs; individual departments also sponsor labs which make CAEDM resources available. The door code for the general labs is available from the CAEDM Account Manager (click "Lab Door Code" in the left side bar). Door codes for departmental labs can usually be obtained from the department secretary.
The general CAEDM labs are open twentyfour hours a day, seven days a week. Students are encouraged not to use the labs on Sunday, but are not prohibited from doing so. Normal hours for the Clyde and Crabtree buildings are 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. You can remain in the buildings after hours, but you will not be able to reenter the building if you leave after 11:00 p.m. These lab hours are considered an exceptional privilege. Most university labs close at midnight or earlier.

Software
CAEDM supports a wide variety of software on both Linux and Windows. Most CAEDM applications can be accessed from the general and departmental labs; many are also available remotely via application servers such as Citrix and RGS (instructions for remote setup are available on the Application Servers page of the CAEDM Wiki).
Generally, all the applications you need to complete your course work will be available in the labs, from the application servers, or both. If there is an application you need for your course work that isn't available in the labs or remotely, talk to your professor about requesting that the application be made available.
Services
In addition to supporting much of the underlying computing infrastructure for the college, CAEDM provides many other services that allow faculty and students in the college to...
- collaborate on projects using shared file spaces and email lists
- run long-term or computationally intensive processes via a batch cluster
- publish content to the web
- exchange large files with off-campus collaborators via temporary FTP accounts
...and much more. Your department CSR can help you decide whether your course work or research could be benefited by services offered by CAEDM.
