Jim Workman (BS ’78, MBA-U of Houston)
Jim joined the Chemicals Management department in 2004 as the Laboratory Safety Officer responsible for the support of the academic laboratories on BYU campus. He was born in Richmond, California and went to High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He went on a mission to Duesseldorf, Germany and graduated from BYU in Chemical Engineering in 1978. Jim also completed an MBA from the University of Houston. He worked for six years at General Electric Plastics as engineering and operations manager, five years for Corning in their Blood Chemistry business and has managed environmental laboratories (including the clean up effort of the Valdez oil spill and, most recently, the 9/11 cleanup effort in NYC) during the past eight years. He is married to the former LaRue McCulloch who is pursuing a degree at BYU in Agriculture and has four children, one (Jenny) who is a senior in the Geology Department at BYU. Jim’s hobbies include restoring old homes, gardening, all sports and scouting activities.

David Anderson (BS ’99)
David David graduated in April 1999, after which he took two months to study abroad at BYU- Jerusalem. In July of 1999, he began his career with Motorola-Semiconductor (now Freescale) in Austin, Texas. He was one of six people hired that year into their Sales Engineering Rotation Program (S.E.R.P.). After completing the 1 year training program, he was transferred to the Boston sales office. He was the only one of his group to go into the MGB (major business group) sales. There, he worked for two years in technical sales, calling on the networking and computing industries. In June of 2002 he took a job with Nalco Company and moved to Tulsa, OK. After working in Tulsa for 3 years, he requested to be transferred to his home state of Arizona. For the next two years he called exclusively on Intel and the Power-Utility companies. In April of 2007 he was the recipient of Nalco's 'Winner's Circle' award, which represents the top 4% of the sales force for his performance in 2006. In May of 2007 he agreed to move to Las Vegas to work for a new start-up company in the battery industry called K2 Energy Solutions. As a business development manager at K2 Energy Solutions, he works in their sales and marketing department promoting lithium iron phosphate or LFP batteries. He, his wife Melanie, and son Cody now live in Henderson, NV.

Greg Bond (BS ’86, MS-Clemson)
Greg joined the Dow Chemical Company in 1988 after graduating from Clemson University. He began his career as a production engineer for Environmental Operations at the Dow site in Freeport, TX. He has held many manufacturing positions associated with the environmental business at Dow. He is currently a project manager for the Environmental Technology Center. He married his wife, Donna, in 1985 and they have seven great children, Kristen, Rachael, Aaron, Katherine, Jacob, Adam, and Laura. Kristen is currently a senior at BYU-I. Rachael is starting as a freshman at BYU-I in January 2008. Greg is excited to serve in the BYU ChemE Alumni Society.

Wendell Beck (BS ’86)
Wendell is a partner with the Sudbury Consulting, LLC, a commercial development company specializing in land entitlement, and commercial and residential development. He was born and attended High School in California. He served a mission to Porto Alegre, Brazil 1977-1979. He married his wife, Julie, in 1980 and they are the proud parents of three, John, Andrew, and Annalissa. After graduating from college, Wendell was a commercial appraiser and then was president of Beck and Associates which is a commercial appraisal and consulting firm.

Jeff Lindsay (BS ’83, PhD ’86)
Jeff received his Ph.D. in Dec. 1986 from BYU, after which he became an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (originally Institute of Paper Science) in Appleton, Wisconsin, and participated in the 1989 move of that graduate school and research center to the Georgie Tech campus in Atlanta. At the Institute, Jeff advised a variety of Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, receieved several best paper awards for research related to the pulp and paper industries, developed several new courses, and in 1992 was named Teacher of the Year and an Associate Professor. In 1994, Jeff joined Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin and began assisting with development of a new tissue technology that was being commercialized. Support for intellectual property activities stimulated a new area of interest, resulting in Jeff becoming a registered US patent agent in 1997 and founding a thriving community of practice, the Intellectual Property Chapter, at K-C in 1998, followed by other initiatives. Jeff was named as Corporate Patent Strategist in 2001 and remained involved in many aspects of research, university relations, open innovation, and intellectual asset strategy. Over the years, Jeff has received 99 of his own patents with more pending. In 2007, Jeff left Kimberly-Clark, joining Innovation Edge, a firm founded by K-C's former Cheif Innovation Officer to help companies improve their innovation systems and to help inventors and startups bring their products to the marketplace. Jeff serves as Director of Solution Development at Innovation Edge, and is largely focused on support of intelletual asset strategy and marketign strategies for clients. Jeff has also introduced Value Network Analysis tools to IE's services for coporate clients. Jeff served a mission in Zurich, Switzerland (1979-1981), runs a pro-LDS blog (Mormanity.org), and provides a variety of Web pages on LDS and other topics at jefflindsay.com and other sites. Jeff and his wife Kendra are parents of four boys, including a graduate from the Chem. Eng. Department (Stephen) and a current Chem. Eng. Major (Ben).

Neil Giles (PhD ’91)
Neil graduated from Southern Utah University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1984. He then worked for three years as an analytical chemist at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratories west of Idaho Falls before returning to school and earning a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from BYU in 1991. Upon graduation from BYU, Neil worked for 16 years as a research engineer for a small contract research company in Provo, Wiltec Research Company. He also enjoyed teaching a section of the UO lab class at BYU as a part-time instructor between 2004 and 2007. He began working full time with the BYU Chemical Engineering Department in June 2007 as the DIPPR 801 Project Coordinator. Neil married his best friend, Sharon Matheson, in the St. George temple in 1984. They have four kids and two grandkids. They enjoy games, sports, camping, traveling, and many other activities together.

James Hickenlooper (BS ’95, MS ’98)
James is currently a Senior Process Engineer with CEntry Constructors & Enginers in Sandy, UT. He has been involved in preliminary and detailed engineering design projects for various refineries. He finds pleasure in seeing a project progress from a HYSYS simulation to final construction. He served a mission in Chile, Santiago (1990-1992). He graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering and continued on to complete an MS in 1998. His focus was on catalysis. James married Anne Suhren in 1996 and they have 3 children, ages 10, 8, and 5. He worked as a process engineer with Fluor Daniel in Aliso Viejo for nearly 5 years before moving back to Utah in 2002. He and his family enjoyed the beaches in California but think the mountains and snow in Utah are even better. His hobbies include reading, traveling, learning German, cross-country skiing, camping, karate, and spending time with his family.

Ben Markham (BS ’71, MS ’72)
Ben now resides with his wife Julie in Provo. He retired from a career with ExxonMobil in 2003 after 31 years. During his career he worked in various technical and management positions. He spent several years in the international refining business including an assignment in Japan where he had served as a missionary 30 years before. The Markhams also lived in Houston (twice), New Jersey (twice), and Virginia during his career. The five children remain scattered around the country so Ben and Julie often travel to be with their seven grandchildren. Since retirement, Ben and Julie served a mission in Ghana, West Africa. Ben is currently working with BYU engineering students on a humanitarian project for the children of West Africa. Ben says that his only hobbies have been work, church and family. He is making an effort to add astronomy, fly fishing and rock hounding to his resume.
