Vincent J. Memmott: Outstanding Alumnus 2006
Vincent J Memmott holds BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from BYU. Early in his career he held various technical positions at Exxon's Baytown Refinery.
He later served as Refinery Manager for Caribou Four Corners, Inc. While there he managed a project that successfully refined crude shale oil into military specification jet fuel. He has been involved in research and development of alternative energy sources from shale oil and coal.
He has owned and operated an engineering consulting company that served the energy and environmental needs of a number of industries. He participated in the start up of several companies involved in the innovation and development of energy related processes.
He is currently the Director of Engineering and Environmental for a Flying J Inc. In addition to managing their technical support groups he manages technology evaluation, selection and implementation for refining processes and for environmental compliance. While at Flying J he has worked with technology and catalyst companies to pilot and commercialize several new process technologies.
Vince is a founding member of the National Petrochemical and Refining Association's Environmental Committee and served on that committee for thirteen years. He is currently a member of the National Petrochemical and Refining Association's Board of Directors. He is also a member of Governor Huntsman's Shale Oil Advisory Panel.
He has served as the Chairman of BYU's Chemical Engineering Alumni Society and has participated in a number of the Chemical Engineering Department's activities.
He has served in a wide variety of church assignments in the Young Men's Organization, Sunday School and the High Priest Group. He has served in several bishoprics and currently serves as first counselor in the bishopric of his ward in Centerville, UT.
Vince and his wife, DeeAnn, are the parents of six children. Their son Matthew recently received a Chemical Engineering degree from BYU and is attending graduate school at MIT. Their son Brett is currently studying Chemical Engineering at BYU.
