Chemical Engineering students at Brigham Young University are among
the best and brightest students in the nation. The average incoming freshman has an ACT score of 27
and a 3.74 grade-point average (on a four-point scale), and Chemical Engineering students are frequently
among the best of these. They are hard-working and energetic, originating from virtually
every state and many nations across the world.
Students in the Chemical Engineering Department at BYU come to learn and
to serve. Upon acceptance to the department they are treated to classes that bring them to a greater
understanding of the world around them. They emerge stronger and wiser people: men and women prepared
to tackle the challenges of an increasingly competitive world.
Their cultural and linguistic experience is vast. Between 1995 and 1998,
158 graduating Chemical Engineering students were asked what languages they speak beyond their native
English. They came back with answers ranging from Arabic to Japanese--more than fifteen languages in
