Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is a national award given to undergraduates to foster and encourage excellence in science, mathematics, and engineering.

Eligibility: Students may apply if they are currently a sophpmore or junior in science, mathematics, or engineering, and are planning on a research career. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a GPA of 3.9 or higher, a strong commitment to research, three strong letters of recommendation, and previous undergraduate research experience.

Award: Up to $7,500 for eligible expenses (tuition, books, fees, room and board).

Length of Award: Sophomore applicants are eligible for a maximum of two years support. Junior appicants receive support for a maximum of one year.

Number of Awards: About 300 scholarships will be awarded to undergraduates each year.

Application Process: Students must be nominated and BYU can only nominate four students per year. To be considered for nomination, submit an application to BYU's faculty representative, Randall Shirts by the deadline.
