Chemical Engineering 

The Chemical Engineering Department has 380 undergraduate students, 45 graduate students, and 13 faculty members.  Average annual external funding ranges from $2 to $3 million in the areas of sustainable energy, combustion processes, micro-power sources, measurement and prediction of thermophysical properties, molecular modeling, biochemical and biomedical engineering, and catalysis with emphasis on production of fuels.

Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has 17 full-time faculty members and serves over 420 undergraduate and 60 graduate students.  The department averages between $1 and $2 million in research funding each year.  Research areas include earthquake resistant structures; traffic simulation; soil liquefaction; stream restoration; drinking and wastewater treatment; finite element; and groundwater, watershed, and surface water computer modeling.

Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has 24 faculty members and approximately 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students.  With research funding ranging from $3 to $4 million each year, the department’s research areas include biomedical imaging, solid state devices, reconfigurable computing, communication systems, robotics, telemetry, and optics.

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Department has 24 faculty members instructing nearly 900 undergraduate and graduate students.  With $4 to $5 million annually in funding, the department conducts research in bioengineering, design, acoustics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), micro-and nanofluidics, automation, robotics, advanced materials, and thermal and energy systems.

School of Technology

With 882 students and 30 faculty members, the School of Technology has six undergraduate programs that are diverse in discipline but unified in their focus on application and integration.  Additionally, it offers a Master of Science in Technology with emphases in construction management, information technology, manufacturing systems, and technology and engineering education.
