Professor Anton Bowden and his team of two graduate students and three undergraduates are twisting, bending and compressing human spines to develop better spare parts for the aching backs of millions of baby boomers. Details of Bowden's latest work are published in the June issue of the academic journal Clinical Biomechanics.
During a study abroad trip to China, BYU civil engineering students saw first-hand some of the world's most structurally impressive buildings and bridges. This included previews of Olympic venues that will make their debut at the upcoming 2008 Summer Games in August.
BYU engineering and technology students, in partnership with non-profit Empower Playgrounds, recently installed an electricity-generating merry-go-round in a rural village in Ghana. While providing limitless fun for the school children, the playground equipment also represents a sustainable solution for bringing electricity to areas of the world needing it.
