For Rocky Mountain Conference we need five male paddlers and five female paddlers. We would like CE students to get with each other and form teams of two and three. The 2 man/woman teams will be doing a 200 meter sprint race while the 3 man/woman teams will be doing a 600 meter endurance/slalom style race. Form your teams and come out to paddle practice saturday mornings at 9 a.m. outside Clyde 207 (structures lab), we will carpool from there. If your team can't make the 9 a.m. Saturday practice time or you are interested in getting in contact with other CE students who want to form a team e-mail us at byuconcretecanoe@gmail.com
Middle school students at DMS are preparing to compete in a program called Science Olympiads. They meet after school to work on real-life small-scale projects and have asked for our help. This is an ongoing service project: we've committed to send BYU students every Friday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Dixon is located at 750 W. 200 N. (Directions: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=40.244419,-111.649246&daddr=W+500+N+St+to:Dixon+Middle+School,+Provo,+UT&hl=en&geocode=%3BFTgFZgIdZBdY-Q%3BFc71ZQId4AVY-SEhKrOGAz78BQ&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&via=1&sll=40.241799,-111.658773&sspn=0.023193,0.038624&ie=UTF8&ll=40.241799,-111.658773&spn=0.023193,0.038624&z=15). The cooperating teacher there is Holly Tippetts. To give the middle school students some continuity, it's important for BYU students to commit to serving more than once. If you have further questions, email byuasce@gmail.com. Sign up here if you plan to do service at Dixon starting this week. We'll email you details each week around Thursday so you know where to meet and who's in charge. (Final note: the sign up will have Dec. 31 as the date--ignore that--we plan on every Friday.)
ASCE T-shirts will be on sale soon. Pre-order in the CE office for $7.50 each. $10 otherwise.
