Event:
Legacy Highway Tour
Dr. Schultz, Dr. Saito, Kordel
Braley, Kelly Ash, Ryan Peterson, Andrew Stewart, and Luke Seegmiller went
on a tour of the Legacy Highway project led by the lead project engineer.
The tour was conducted in a specialized van that included flat screen
monitors with real-time GIS information of the highway alignment correlated
to the position of our van along the tour route. We learned that many
stakeholders were involved in the project and a lot of negotiating and
public input was required to make the project a success. As we all
know, transportation engineering is 50% design work and 50%
psychology/social work. We also checking out the
structural pylons that will be used to make sure the legacy highway doesn't
sink into the wetlands. The pylons will end up being approximately 185
feet in length when they are buried. |
