Environmental Engineering

Objectives. By the conclusion of the class students will
understand basic environmental processes.
They will also be conversant in current environmental issues such as
global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion, solid waste, and hazardous waste
disposal. (Also see objectives on the course web page.)
Paper: Each student in the class will write a paper
describing their relationship with the earth and responsibility for the
environment. This paper should contain
moral, ethical, philosophical, and spiritual arguments and include at least
five references (at least two must be something other than the scriptures
and/or general authorities.)
Web-site. The class web-site at can be located from the
college web page (http://www.et.byu.edu/student_websites.php). It is the CE351-02 web page (CE351-01 is Dr.
Downs webpage). It will contain the TA’s office hours and email address (this
will be up-dated soon), the course schedule, a copy of the instructor’s
original lecture notes and overhead transparencies, the homework assignments,
the current grade posting, and buttons
to allow quick email to Dr. Borup and the TA.
Check it regularly to ensure that your homework scores are properly
posted.
Homework. Problems have been selected from the
questions at the end of each chapter of the text. Generally, they are due the class period
following the last lecture for the chapter.

Each question is worth five points even though some are more involved
than others. They are due by

Field
Trip. A trip, in addition to class, to Provo City
Sewage Treatment Plant. Attendance
counts as one homework assignment.
Final
Grade. The final grade will be based on the
following:
Midterm Examinations 2 @ 25% each
Final Examination 25%
Homework 10%
Paper 15%
Final Examination: Wednesday, 12 August 2009, 3:00-4:50 pm
