Dear Civil Engineering Consultant:

The city of ________________* is discussing the idea of either buying an existing landfill or buying land, obtaining a permit and building a new facility.  We would like to hire you as our Civil Engineering consultant.  Please provide us with some background on the subject.  We would like to know the following one week from today.

 1)      How much solid waste is produced each year?

3)      Are there any competing waste disposal technologies that we should consider?

4)      What regulatory issues must we address?

5)      How much does it cost to build a subtitle-D landfill for solid waste?

6)      What consultants are available in the area to do landfill design?

Through the resources you have available to you (library, books, journals, notes, google, etc.) perform a background study on the questions outlined above.  Provide a write up (three pages maximum, 1.5 line spacing, 12 point, Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins all sides).  Your write up should be in the form of a letter addressed to the city council. You must reference the facts that you find and provide complete references for each.
