LCR System Design

Design a leachate collection and removal system for the MSW landfill shown below.  Design/specify the following items:

1)    The layout of the collection system (spacing, slopes, etc).

2)    The size and type of pipes.  Including hole diameter and # of holes per foot.  Follow the example in the lecture notes

3)    Write the specs for the drainage medium.  Use gravel on the bottom and a geonet on the sides.  Make sure your design does not exceed the maximum allowed head.

a)    For the gravel layer, specify the hydraulic conductivity and the drainage layer thickness.  You should write the specs for filter criteria between the gravel and the pipes.  Sketch a detail of the filter design.

b)      If you choose a geonet, specify the minimum transmissivity.

4)    Write the specs for the filter for the drain layer.  Choose either fabric or sand and include appropriate specs.

Design for a maximum infiltration rate of 0.6 cm/day over the entire landfill.
