HELP Model Simulation

A landfill is to be constructed at a site near Grand Junction, Colorado.  The profile of the landfill is shown below.  The landfill will cover an area of 12 acres.

Run the HELP model to analyze the design shown below.  Use the default climatological data for Grand Junction that is for the period 1974-1978 (use the default precip. data and let HELP generate synthetic temp. and solar radiation data).  Let the HELP model compute a runoff curve number.  Assume the cover has a maximum slope of 3.5% and a maximum drainage distance of 350 ft.

After running the program, e-mail a copy of the output file to the TA for grading.

Installing HELP3 on Your Computer

The HELP program is a public domain program and can be copied for personal use.  Because of the way the software is set up, the simplest method is to install the software in your own area before you run the program.  This also gives you your own copy of the HELP software to keep.  To get the software, do the following:

1. Click here to download a copy of the HELP files to your computer
2. Unzip the files downloaded in the previous step to a directory of your choice.
3. Double click on the HELP3.BAT file to launch the program.
