I. The Task
  1. Create a project cost estimate for a commercial office building bidding as a general contractor in a traditional delivery system.
  2. Evaluate & choose subcontractor bids.
  3. Submit complete bid package by the due time. Late bids will not be accepted. If you fail to submit your bid by the deadline, you forfeit the opportunity to present your bid to the judges. You will need to submit the following (nothing else please): If you have problems submitting your information, judge@mycompany.com
    1. Bid form--Lump Sum Amount for the project
      We suggest referring to the Project Spec. book for the bid form
    2. Line item cost breakdown in CSI organization
      Concrete is to be done "In-House" unless you choose a subcontractor with a better price. (Labor prices are on the Plans Website.)

  4. For the presentation you will need a schedule for the project. You may also bring other items that may help you win the bid. These include items suchas:
    • Bid Form
    • Cost Breakdown, Total Project Cost Estimate, Subcontractor Selection List
    • General Conditions Breakout Estimate
    • Sample Takeoff Spreadsheet
    • Schedule (for presentation)
      • Excel Example
      • Suretrack Example
  5. Team Presentation.
    1. Purpose: To convince the owner's representatives that you are the right team for the job.
    2. Presentation: To be directed toward the panel of industry judges as if they were the actual owner's representatives.
    3. Suggestions on what to include:
      1. Company overview (History & previous projects)--Make this brief.
      2. Managerial operations strategy
      3. Project execution plan
      4. Financial bidding justification
      5. Schedule justification
    4. Resources available for presentations: overhead projector, multi-media projector (for PowerPoint presentations, videos, etc.), screen for multi-media presentations, tables and chairs. Each team will need to provide any additional resources they would like to use in their presentation. A thumb (USB) drive is highly recommended for PowerPoint presentations.
