Construction Management Business Club

Brigham Young University

The Construction Management Business Club is a relatively new addition to the program in terms of clubs. It was started one year ago, and was originally named the Construction Management Sales and Marketing Club. The name is now changed to appeal more to all Business aspects of construction. This year's CMB club presidency has lofty plans to help the CM Business Club become an organization comparable to the more mature student chapters in the program like NAHB or ABC. This year has started off strong, and with the active participation of the CM body, we will have a terrific year.

Many BYU Construction Management students aspire to becoming middle to upper-level management in the construction industry, if not build a business of their own. The CM Business Club stands alone from other CM clubs because it is the only club that focuses on the heart of the construction industry. CM Business focuses on business as it applies to construction. This year, active participants of CMB will meet one on one with brilliant professionals who have become successful as entrepreneurs and businessmen. They will teach us what it takes to work up to the top, and be successful in the business end of construction. When dealing with business, knowledge is power; the man with the most information will come out on top. The Construction Management Business Club focuses on providing a more solid base of knowledge and understanding to help BYU's CM students remain at the top.

This year, the CM Business Club Presidency will organize the following activities:

  1. An on campus real-estate class to receive licensing in real-estate sales. This can lead to a great earning potential as students or professionals.
  2. Roundtables with business founders, developers, entrepreneurs, professors, and other successful business professionals. These round tables will lean toward the construction industry, and they always include pizza.
  3. Organize a Business Plan Competition. Last year the Marriot School of Business's Business Plan Competition was won by a CM team!
  4. Service Projects. Hopefully we can provide service which will offer us additional exposure to business in our field.

We are very excited about where this club is headed; the sky is the limit. With lots of support, active participation, and proactive = leaders, this year's CM Business Club will accomplish a lot of good for many of us CM students.
