Text:
The course will be taught primarily from instructor notes. Supplemental reading in the following optional texts may also be helpful:
- HAY: Haykin & Moher, Modern Wireless Communications, Prentice-Hall.
- VA: Vaughan & Andersen, Channels, Propagation, and Antennas for Mobile Communications, IEE Press.
- BAL: C. Balanis, Antenna Theory: Analysis and Design , John Wiley & Sons.
- ELL: R. Elliott, Antenna Theory and Design , Prentice-Hall.
- JAK: W. Jakes, Microwave Mobile Communications , IEEE Press.
Grading:
- Midterm Exam: One midterm
exam will be given.
- Final Exam: The final exam will
be comprehensive and administered during finals week.
- Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly and collected in class.
- Paper: Each student should prepare a two page written report in journal paper format on a problem, application, or topic related to the class material. A first draft will be due near the end of March.
| | Midterm: | 25% |
| | Final: | 25% |
| | Homework: | 35% |
| | Paper: | 15% |
Late work and missed exams: Except in unusual circumstances,
exams and due dates cannot be missed for credit unless prior arrangements
for make-up work have been made.
Attendance: A passing grade might be attained by self study alone, but some course material may be presented in-class only, including motivation and demonstrations. All students
are responsible to learn the material whether or not they attend the lectures.
Honor code: Adherence to the BYU
honor code is encouraged and expected. This includes appropriate dress in class, respectful
treatment of others, and refraining from plagiarism, cheating, and any
other type of academic dishonesty.
Web Pages
Be sure to check the course website regularly, particularly the schedule
page. It will be regularly updated with lecture notes and other material.
Other information related to this and other courses is available on
the ECE Department syllabus webpage.
Weekly Schedule and Contact Information
The instructor will be available during
regular office hours each week. Consultation times
can also be arranged by appointment. If you are struggling with the
material, do not wait until the end of the semester to contact the instructor.
Often, the source of the problem can be identified and the situation improved
if you are willing to take a few minutes to come in.
