Homework
Homework problems are important in helping you learn the calculations and
methodologies important to hydrologists. They, along with the lab work,
will prepare you for proficiency in the fundamentals of hydrology necessary to
perform well on the exams. What I am trying to say is that I believe it is
more important to do the homework so you understand the process than to just get
a correct answer (after all there are very few "correct" answers in hydrology
anyway). The following is how homework will be graded
- Assigned
- Homework problems will be due the day we talk about them as a
preparation check. You will grade each problem as either 0 - no
effort, 1 - minimal effort, or 2 - good effort. Hopefully you will
have the problems answered correctly, but this is not the point. You
should clearly indicate your first pass score at the top of your homework
when turning it in for final grading. The
point is to come to class having prepared yourself to ask questions and
become involved in discussions. I want to encourage you to come to my
office and ask questions, but not to get detailed information about solving
a problem correctly for the first pass. Come and ask questions about
what is this question asking, or where do I find data, but not "how do you
do this" kinds of questions.
- We will discuss in class the homework along with the lecture.
Sometimes we may even complete homework problems during class, but either
way the final homework is due in my office by 2:00 pm the following class
period
we talk about it
in class.
- Grading for your homework will be 25% based on the first pass and 75%
for the second
- First pass homework cannot be made up (not in class and you lose this
25%) and late homework will be reduced by 25%
All labs are due at the following lab period.
Exams during the semester will be given in the testing center.
