The Roland A. Crabtree Technology
Building
|
|
Home to
nearly all the facilities associated with the
manufacturing program at BYU.
These facilities range
from office space (for faculty, staff, and graduate students) to
CAEDM computer labs, from the MLF
(an internship placement office) to an induction furnace
equipped foundry. The
Ira and Mary Lou Fulton Supercomputing Center is housed
upstairs, and the Precision Machining Center is on the first
floor. These last two are examples of Crabtree Building resources shared by the
entire College of Engineering and Technology. |

History:
The Crabtree Technology
building was dedicated on October 19, 1985. It is named
after Roland and Dora Mae Poulter Crabtree, who are known and
respected for their service and dedication to education.
In keeping with the technology theme, a specially modified robot
was used to cut the ribbon.
The building has five
floor levels and a total of 55,600 assignable square feet.
The main-floor commons areas has enough room for about 80
students to study, there are a total of 23 laboratory rooms, 30
offices, three large classrooms, and a multi-media auditorium
(the auditorium serves as a chapel on Sundays).
The FFKR
architectural firm (Fowler, Ferguson, Kingston, and Ruben)
designed the structure, and the Layton
Construction Company served as general contractor for the
project.
