A Brigham Young University professor of civil and environmental engineering has been elected by his peers to lead a specialty institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

In October, Rollin Hotchkiss will start his term as vice president of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI). Having been active in ASCE for nearly three decades and EWRI since its inception in 1999, Hotchkiss was nominated to run by more than 200 institute members.

After serving as vice president for one year, he will serve as president-elect. Hotchkiss will then become EWRI president in 2010–2011.

EWRI focuses on integrating technical expertise and public policy to create environmentally sound and sustainable infrastructure impacting air, land, and water resources. ASCE is the country’s oldest national engineering society.
