Successful alumni entreprenuers to speak

October 2008

Having recently returned from conquering Mount Kilimanjaro, the Kothari brothers will present a lecture entitled “An Entrepreneurial Journey” as part of the Fulton College Lecture series on Thursday, November 6 at 11 a.m. in the deJong Concert Hall, HFAC.

The Kotharis, Ketan and Manish, are two of the Fulton College’s most successful and influential alumni. The brothers were among the founding members of TiE – Silicon Valley, which has grown to become the world’s largest non-profit organization for entrepreneurs. While they were in Silicon Valley working with TiE, they were also working hard to grow their own educational technology firm, AlphaSmart, Inc. In 2005 they arranged for the successful acquisition of AlphaSmart for more than $40M.

Currently they are co-founders of Aspen Learning, Inc, which created the OpenClassroom Server to support the development of 21st century skills and learning. They are also active angel investors and have assisted in the strategic planning stages of numerous startup companies.

After graduating from BYU in 1987, both with degrees in electrical engineering, the brothers continued on to graduate school. Ketan Kothari received an MBA from BYU, while his brother Manish, earned a MSEE from the University of Wisconsin and then an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Please Note: This lecture will be held in the deJong Concert Hall, HFAC and not in the JSB auditorium.
