BYU professor named guest editor of prestigious journal

Civil engineering professor Mitsuru Saito was recently named as a guest editor for one of his field’s most renowned scholastic journals.

The publication, Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, asked Saito to oversee the production of a special edition of the journal entitled “Advanced Computer Modeling in Transportation Engineering.”

Saito has been a peer-reviewer for the journal for many years, but “never expected that [he] would be invited to become a guest editor.” He said that he is both “honored and excited” by the opportunity.

This special edition, slated for publication in early 2010, will feature the research of technical and industry experts from around the world.

Saito currently heads the new BYU transportation lab.  Through access to UDOT traffic cameras, students can analyze traffic flow and apply their research to solving real transportation problems.
