BYU Engineering Week – February 21-24, 2006

February 2006

Engineering week was held Tuesday, February 21 through Friday, February 24, the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology celebrated Engineering Week, along with the rest of the nation. This included many events that students were encouraged to participate in.

What:  Career Fair
When:  Wednesday, February 22, 9am - 3pm
Where: 3220-3224 Wilkinson Center

  • 50+ engineering and technology companies will be attending. See http://www.et.byu.edu/news_career_fair_2006.htm for a list of companies.
  • Bring your resume and dress appropriately.
  • Students can also volunteer to assist companies during the career fair.  Contact Jane Cunningham in 278 Clyde Building.

What:  Undergraduate Academic Paper Competition
When:  Tuesday, February 21, 5pm - 7pm
Where: 393 Clyde Building

  • 10-20 page academic paper based on and engineering or technology topic
  • Submissions should include the paper, an executive summary, and a cover sheet with the student’s name, phone number and email address.  
  • Papers are due on Friday, February 17 at 5 p.m. to 270 Clyde Building.
  • The top ten submissions will be notified by email and will make a 5-7 minute presentation to a panel of faculty members on Tuesday, February 21 at 5 p.m. 
  • Papers and presentations will be judged based on context, logic, and presentation.
  • Top winners of the competition will be awarded cash prizes of $50, $25, and $15.

What:  Poster Competition
When:  Tuesday, February 21, 5pm - 7pm
Where: 393 Clyde Building

  • Any technical or club related poster
  • Posters are due on Friday, February 17 at 5 p.m. to 270 Clyde Building.
  • Top poster will be awarded a cash prize of $20.

What:  Booths and Club Competitions
When:  Thursday, February 23, 12pm-5pm
Where: Step-down Lounge, Clyde Building

  • Club booths and displays of department research

What: Excellent Engineering Educator – Vote for your favorite faculty
When: Deadline is February 14
Where: Your department offices

  • Recognize your favorite faculty member by filling out a ballot at your department office. The most outstanding faculty member will be announced at the Student/Faculty banquet.

What:  Student/Faculty College Banquet
When:  Friday, February 24, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Where: 2256 Harmon Building

  • Tickets are available in the Dean’s Office; $5 per ticket or $7 per couple
  • Student Faculty Awards will be given, so vote in your department office
  • Dr. Brent Strong will be the keynote speaker; it will be a “creative” topic
