Welcome
to the School of Technology Web Page. The BYU Board of Trustees established
the School as an academic unit in the College of Engineering and Technology
to provide national leadership in the field of technology. Leaders developed
through the programs in the School of Technology have an academic foundation
in technology coupled with management, problem solving, and application
skills. This combination provides graduates with the capabilities necessary
to fulfill leadership positions in technologically-based enterprises throughout
the world.
The programs in the School of Technology are recognized as among the
best of their kind in the nation. The students, faculty, and facilities
are first rate. BYUs technology programs have traditionally been
on the leading edge of change and they continue to provide leadership
among their peer universities.
The national standing of the School and its faculty is further supported
by the significant support received from external sources. In the past,
yearly donations (cash and in-kind) to the School have topped approximately
$10,000,000. These donations have been willingly provided because the
School is perceived as providing programs that have great societal need
and prepare students for life and work in a technological society. They
also indicate that the new directions being charted in the School are
right on target.
The School of Technology is a professional school and as such, the Schools
undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to prepare qualified
professionals for leadership positions in industry, business, government,
and education. The programs in the School of Technology have been successful
in preparing such leaders. Many graduates hold executive and senior management
positions in technologically-based companies such as Novell, General Motors,
Motorola, Lear Corporation, Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Spectra Logic,
John Deere, and TRW.
