In 1979 John joined with Louis Pope and Dr. Bill J. Pope and others in the startup of US Synthetic, a company involved in Ultra High Pressure Synthesis. His work at US Synthetic, among other things, led to the invention of the polycrystalline (PCD) veined drill technology and the formation of Precorp, Inc. which grew into a world leading cutting tool company with operations in Utah, Michigan, South Carolina and Germany.

Richard has progressive leadership experience with BD in manufacturing engineering, operations management, and commercial roles where he has established a track record of building and leading high performance teams who deliver strong results. He has global responsibility for the Infusion Therapy Business, which is a significant portion of the $2.3 billion Medical Surgical Unit. The Sandy site is home to about 1,000 associates in manufacturing, marketing, R&D, and other functions.
