What international experience have you had?

I had the opportunity to go to the Dominican Republic and teach engineering to 15-17 year old students. Our class was designed specifically to teach Robotics and the Engineering Design Process. We have a very unique teaching style that the Dominican students are not necessarily used to. A regular classroom for them is one that listens to lectures and has very strict rules. Our classes are designed to be hands-on so students are allowed to play while they learn. These students had never experienced anything that we were teaching them, and they loved it! They were very quick to learn and absolutely brilliant.

What have you learned through your experience in engineering?

My teaching ability improved tremendously because of my experience in the Dominican Republic. I learned so much about classroom management and different techniques of teaching. I also was able to learn so much about the culture. The Dominicans are the kindest people I have ever met. They will provide you with the best of everything, even though they have very little. I adored each individual student that I taught, and they will forever hold a place in my heart. This was one of the best experiences of my life.
