Final Information

General:

The final will be offered in the testing center from Friday, April 17, 2009 until Wednesday, April 22, 2009. There will be no makeup finals offered so please plan accordingly. Do not wait until the last minute to take this final. There is no maximum time limit so that you will be able to carefully work through the problems. However, give yourself at least a three hour block to make sure that you have sufficient time to complete it.

Coverage:

The midterm will cover material in the book from sections 1.1 up to and including section 7.5. Additionally, all the lecture material, homework, and quizzes will be covered.

Aids:

Please bring a non-graphing calculator to the testing center. No additional notes are allowed. Helpful information will be provided as the last three pages of the midterm. A copy of them is linked here for your reference: Final Helpful Information Sheets.

Format:

The first part of the exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions, whose answers you will enter on the scantron bubble sheet for machine grading. Each question in this part will be worth 1 point. The second part of the exam consists of 2 extended response questions, whose answers you  will mark directly on the exam. The first question is worth 4 points and the second question is worth 4 points.

Practice:

Make sure that you can do all of the quizzes without aids. This is excellent preparation and is a good measure of your progress. This is the reason that they are provided on this site with and without answers. Go back over your homework and make sure that you understand how to arrive at the answers. The most difficult homework problems are significantly more difficult than anything on the exam, but the approaches and intuition gained from solving homework problems will help you on the final.
