Who I Am. What I Do. Things That Are Neat. And Much More.
Who I Am
My name is Evan Selin. I'm married and have been since 2007. My wife and I have one son who keeps us on our toes. I am an avid sports fan. I am also a fan of crossword puzzles. I'm so good at crosswords that I can almost finish the Monday puzzle without help... I enjoy riding and working on bikes. I would say that my favorite food is popcorn and my favorite candy is the standard Snickers bar.
What I Do
Currently I am pursuing a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I do research in the BYU ParaCAD Lab, where I work on developing parametric CAD applications. These applications support designers in their work within CAD systems. I mostly work with the NX software package. My interests are in design and analysis of parts using composite materials, methods development, curves and surface geometry (Beziers,B-Splines,NURBS,T-Splines,etc), finite element analysis, aerospace systems, and sports equipment development.
Things That Are Neat
I think that a lot of things are neat. Several of these things are listed above. I also enjoy watching and participating in a wide variety of sports. Among those I enjoy doing are Wrestling, Volleyball, Frisbee Golf, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Cycling, Dodgeball, and Competetive Swimming. I enjoy watching the sports I play as well as NBA and NCAA Basketball, College Football, and Curling.
Another thing I like is watching birds. I don't know a lot about them, but I have two books that I like to look through to identify the birds that I see while I'm out and about. I particularly enjoyed doing this while I lived in Idaho on a farm that my wife's grandma owned.
I think that music is neat. I have a pretty diverse collection of music that I like to listen to. Some of my favorite genres include Rock, Oldies, Classical and Opera, Pop, and Country. Some favorite artists of mine are Weezer, Victor Borge, Michael Buble, and Gioachino Rossini. Mostly I like stuff that I can sing or hum along with. I enjoy the songs from the TV show "Glee" although I don't like the storylines that the show pursues. I think music is neat because of the way that it can communicate to people.
I am quite a movie buff and television fan (although I don't currently have a TV in the house). I enjoy quoting funny lines from familiar and obscure shows with family and friends. If it weren't prohibitively expensive, I think I would find myself at the movie theaters all too often. Some favorite television shows of mine are The Wonder Years, The Office, Arrested Development, and most any athletic event.
So these are a few of the things that I think are neat. You will find some posts about these things and more on this website. Hopefully I can post things that are entertaining or are of interest and/or helpful to people. I hope you find something worthwhile here.
