Topic: Heat Engines

1. Make a time line, with important developments in heat engines above the time line, and important events in the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ below the time line.  Please comment on how the heavens of knowledge were opened during and after the restoration of the gospel.

2. Please discuss how steam engines work, including a review of some of the historical improvements.

3. Please discuss how a steam turbine works, along with a water turbine.

4. What were the difficult challenges in developing steam turbines?

5. Please discuss in detail Figure 6.23.  Include a sketch of the Rankine cycle, and label where the different pieces of equipment lie.  Find the mistake in the labeled pressure in Figure 6.23.  Find the temperature of the steam entering the condenser in this figure.

6. Please discuss why the condenser is necessary.
