Leadership Committee
Leadership Committee
Report by Doug Clifford, Committee Chair
Following a successful Fall 2010 ACET conference, the leadership committee has reviewed the mentoring activities and the action items generated during the leadership committee meeting.
- Feedback from students regarding the Thursday mentoring dinner is positive. This has become a major mainstay event for our ACET members at the conference.
- The new Friday networking event, set to resemble a corporate social reception, could use some improvement: students were wandering and ACET members reported not meeting as many students as they hoped. We feel this event went well but could be made more efficient.
The Leadership Committee meeting was primarily focused on establishing a support structure for the college's leadership course, EngT 231: Leadership in a Technological World.
- We invited EngT 231 instructors to our committee meeting and developed an action plan to assist them with case studies from the experiences of the ACET members during their working career. John Harb developed a template for individuals to submit their stories. We are still in the process of collecting these items.
We also suggest using newer social networks to provide broader networking and mentoring experiences to our students and graduates. We recommend setting this as a major topic for the Fall 2011 conference.
