During February's Weidman Center Leadership Lecture, Richard Ji, vice president of infusion therapy systems and site leader for BD Medical, spoke to students about how to create building blocks of leadership in his lecture entitled "The Legos of Leadership."

Berkeley renewable energy expert to lecture at BYU

Alexis T. Bell, a world-renowned scholar in the field of chemical engineering, will deliver the eighth annual Izatt-Christensen Lecture Mar. 19.  As part of his general lecture, he will discuss how traditional energy sources like coal, oil and natural gas can eventually be replaced by more renewable resources.

Ford executive to deliver college lecture about auto engineering

Michael Whitens, the director of Ford Motor Company's Vehicle & Enterprise Sciences and Research and Innovation Center, will deliver this month's college lecture March 5 at 11 a.m. in 140 JSB.  Whitens is an automotive industry veteran who has spent the majority of his career at Ford in various body engineering disciplines.  He will speak about exciting opportunities in automotive engineering.

ME department chair named USU distinguished alumnus

On February 20th Daniel Maynes, professor and chair of the BYU Department of Mechanical Engineering, was named "Distinguished Alumnus of the Year" by the Utah State University Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.

Allan McDonald shares his experiences with the infamous space shuttle Challenger

Allan McDonald, author of the book Truth, Lies and O-Rings: Inside the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, spoke to students and faculty about his experience working with the space shuttle Challenger and the importance of ethical decision making.

BYU to host events for Engineering and Technology Week 2015

In honor of National Engineers Week 2015, the Brigham Young University Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology will host interactive exhibits, competitions and tours for middle and high school students Thursday, Feb. 26, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., 10:30 – 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the WSC Garden Court. 

Professor of electrical and computer engineering to head up IEEE society

Michael Jensen, a BYU professor of electrical and computer engineering, has recently been chosen as president-elect for his society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. This position oversees roughly 8,300 members of IEEE as well as a 12-person elected administrative committee. 

Truth, Lies & O-Rings: Inside the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster

On Thursday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. in 140 JSB, Allan McDonald, former vice president of engineering at ATK Thiokol Propulsion and author of the book Truth, Lies, and O-Rings: Inside the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, will be speaking.  All students, faculty and staff are invited to hear an engineer's perspective on the ethical decisions faced by the team working on the fateful project.

The top two finalists from the Three Minute Thesis competition in the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology will continue on to present their simplified theses and compete against other BYU students from various disciplines.

Fulton Match a success, raises $1.6 million in three months

The million dollar donation match was an unbelievable success!  On Oct. 9, 2014, Ira A. Fulton, namesake for the BYU college of engineering and technology and a generous philanthropist, offered a dollar-for-dollar donation match up to a total of $1,000,000 for donations made to the new engineering building before Dec. 31, 2014.  Thanks to 6,400 donations, which included gifts from more than 3,000 new donors, we were able to exceed our goal and received $1.6 million in addition to Ira Fulton’s million dollars.
