In her recent college lecture, Dylann Ceriani, senior product development engineer at Symbient, spoke about her unique path from a two-time All-American volleyball player to a product development engineer in the medical device industry. 

New infrared technique aims to remotely detect dangerous materials

Civil engineering's Dr. Gustavious Williams teamed up with Candace Berrett in Statistics to discover that infrared technology holds the potential to spot from afar whether a site is being used to make nuclear weapons. The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration funded the project through a grant awarded to Williams.

BYU Splash Lab hosts robotics competition for hundreds

Roughly 450 elementary and middle school children demonstrated their underwater robot engineering skills Wednesday at the annual Utah Underwater Robotics competition.  Hosted by mechanical engineering's Splash Lab, the competition at the Lehi Legacy Center featured students from 15 Utah schools who navigated self-built robots through underwater obstacle courses.

BYU origami research featured on KSL

A recent KSL story explores how BYU engineering and industrial design students have been experimenting with origami, going beyond paper to create designs out of metals and other fabrications.  They have also been collaborating with world-renowned origami artist Robert Lang.  Their work has the potential to be used in everything from planes, automobiles, medical devices and even has NASA/space applications.

Vice president of EMC delivers 10 leadership lessons to motivate and inspire

As vice president and general manager of EMC Corporation, Vance Checketts has a wealth of experience in leadership. Under his leadership, local operations have exceeded expectations for growth and delivery of real value for EMC and their customers.  In his lecture to the engineering and technology students, delivered Feb. 27, Checketts offered the 10 most important lessons he has learned up to this point in his life.

Mechanical engineering professor named Fulbright Scholar, headed to UK

BYU professor Christopher Mattson has been named a Fulbright Scholar.  The mechanical engineer will spend the next academic year in the United Kingdom at the world’s leading institute for design research.

For the second consecutive year, the work of a BYU industrial designer has won a prestigious tech design award.  Alumnus Jon Harris and the company he co-founded, FiftyThree, Inc., recently won a Crunchies award for best design for their innovative stylus “Pencil” that works hand in hand with their iPad app “Paper.”

Engineer and two-time All-American to give lecture on biomechanical engineering

Dylann Ceriani, a principal product development engineer at Symbient, will deliver the college lecture on Thursday, Mar. 6 at 11 a.m. in 140 JSB.  Ceriani has extensive experience in medical device design and has been issued five patents in biomechanical engineering.  While at BYU, she was a two-time All-American volleyball player and remains the most decorated female athlete in BYU history.
