BYU Construction Management students win first place in national and regional competitions

BYU CM recently won first place in the National Association of Home Builders competition, taking their third national title since 2004.  Two other BYU teams took first and third at the Associated Schools of Construction regional competition.  BYU Construction Management competition teams consistently lead their peers in top-three finishes. 

ME student receives Utah Engineers Council Scholarship

Braden Hancock, a mechanical engineering student at BYU, received the 2014 Utah Engineers Council Scholarship. This $1,500 scholarship is awarded to one engineering student from each university in Utah every year.

More than 1,100 students from local elementary, middle and high schools attended the college's interactive exhibits in celebration of National Engineers Week 2014.  The students learned about a variety of engineering and technology professions through hands-on demos and competitions. 

Mechanical engineers study the impact figure skating has on body

When figure skaters land, they absorb forces up to eight times their body weight in milliseconds. By attaching a device to the skate, researchers, including BYU mechanical engineers, are quantifying the toll those jumps take on skaters' bodies.

CE professor appointed vice chair in professional organization

Civil Engineering Associate Department Chair Grant G. Schultz, an associate professor, has been appointed as the vice chair of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Transportation Education Council. ITE is an international educational and scientific association of transportation professionals.

College crowns Three Minute Thesis champions

The Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology hosted its first ever Three Minute Thesis Competition last week. The top three students will now go on to compete in the university-wide competition hosted by BYU.

In honor of National Engineers Week 2014, hundreds of students will get to see demonstrations, tours, competitions and booths from several of the on-campus engineering and technology clubs. This event, hosted by the BYU Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology, is open to the public.

Industrial design students launch innovations beyond the classroom

Two BYU industrial design students, Aaron Puglisi and Daniel Shirley, have taken classroom innovation to the next level, using Kickstarter to launch their senior project into a real business. The students say their success is due to hard work, dedication and everything they’ve gained from the industrial design program here at BYU, specifically technical skills and encouragement from professors.
