After graduating from BYU with a degree in manufacturing engineering technology in 2013, Rebecca Peterson decided to continue her education and earn a master’s degree. Upon completing the master’s program in 2015, she landed a job with Ford and now works at the company’s Dearborn Truck Plant (DTP) in the Detroit metropolitan area.

Since graduating in 2016 with a degree in manufacturing engineering technology, BYU alum Regan Homer has gone from intern to full-time manufacturing engineer at BD Medical, a Fortune 500 global medical technology company.

Chad Josephson, a PhD student studying electrical engineering, wrote a paper with BYU professor Michael Rice that won first place at the October 2017 International Telemetering Conference (ITC) in Las Vegas, NV. 
 

Josephson’s paper, titled “Optimizing Coded 16-APSK for Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry” impressed the judges out of a crowded field of candidates. Rice and Josephson’s work in aeronautical telemetry focuses on receiving data from airborne systems. 
 

Nancy Patton-Ferrell (BS ’80), principal/vice president of Patrell Engineering Group, Inc., delivered a lecture to an auditorium full of students, faculty and friends on Thursday, Nov. 9. Patton-Ferrell, a civil engineering graduate, presented her address as part of the two-day Advancement Council for Engineering and Technology (ACET) Conference.

Bahaar Taylor graduated from BYU in 2015 with a degree in civil engineering, and has since pursued a career as a structural engineer. She has worked on projects all over the Pacific Northwest and Maui, Hawaii. Taylor works for Erickson Structural Consulting Engineers, an engineering firm based out of Vancouver, Washington that focuses on forensic investigations and structural diagnostics, seismic evaluations, building remodels and renovations.

It’s been a little over a month since a devastating 7.1-magnitude earthquake killed 370 people and injured roughly 6,000 more in Mexico. And while rescue efforts have ceased, rebuilding efforts may last for years. BYU civil engineering professor Kevin Franke has seen the damage in person, recently leading an NSF-funded reconnaissance mission in Mexico City to help provide engineering answers to recovery challenges.

Franklin (Lynn) Orr, former Under Secretary for Energy and Science, addressed the public on Thursday, October 19, in the general lecture of the two-part Reed M. Izatt and James J. Christensen Lecture Series. As Under Secretary, Orr served as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, giving him a unique perspective on the world’s energy future.

Students filled the JSB auditorium on Thursday, October 5, to learn from the experience of Tom Ingersoll (BS ’85, MEM ’86), this year’s recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award for the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology. Ingersoll has enjoyed a career as an entrepreneur and engineer, serving as CEO for ambitious startups and managing larger corporations as well.
