2011 Fall Conference Highlights
There were several highlights to the 2011 Fall Conference, including the senior and junior student mentoring activities, the second annual Student Innovator of the Year Competition and ACET member Martin Frey's presentation on ascending Mt. Everest.
Students who attended the events and participated in follow-up surveys responded with highly positive feedback. Students shared the following responses:
“This time was golden; a highlight of the school year.”
“I so appreciate the spouses sharing their experiences together.”
“Great job! Thank you for your wonderful advice.”
Responses from the networking luncheon were equally enthusiastic. Many students went into the luncheon with questions regarding issues such as mentoring in entrepreneurial ventures, how to gain relevant experience, tips to best presenting themselves, how to efficiently network, etc.
After the networking activity and having a chance to meet with some of the ACET members, students wrote their responses to the feedback they received. Most expressed having learned valuable lessons.
Matt Corless, a senior majoring in electrical engineering, had the initial question of, “How can I make myself stand out?” Once he had spoken with three ACET members he said that the most valuable thing he learned was to, “keep learning, find new ways to do things, and to get out of my comfort zone.”
Corless, like dozens of other students, benefited from the time the ACET members took to share some life lessons and personal advice.
Another highlight for ACET members was Martin Frey's presentation about his exciting journey to the top of Mt. Everest. Everyone in the audience was left awe-struck and inspired by Martin's recounting of the journey and the lessons learned.
